Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s Xmas POS, The stores that Santa forgot!

Sainsbury’s, The store that Santa forgot

Usually known for pushing the boundaries when it comes to in-store point of sale; it seems this Christmas Sainsbury’s are all about the presents and less about the magic! With well stocked aisles full of presents and lots of festive items, this retailer has failed to do them justice with limited POS with no strong creative feel.  With promotional products displayed on FSDU’s and gondola ends surrounded by the standard orange look and feel, there was a distinct clash between this and the POS for more festive items such as Christmas cakes and Turkeys. This combined with no decorations was enough to brand Sainsbury’s as this year’s Grinch….although the pain was slightly softened with in store sampling of minced pies and Christmas puds!

Above: Thanks for reminding your shoppers that they are in your store to do a Christmas Shop!

Our Verdict: 3/10 – Humbugs!

Tesco, focus on finest range this Christmas

In times of austerity,Tesco have taken a brave move and almost entirely focussed their Christmas point of sale on their finest range. With large hanging boards featuring photography of festive treats and ample ‘in aisle’ markers, it seems this retailer may have forgotten that Christmas isn’t exclusively for those who can afford the best.

Our Verdict: 5/10 – A cracker without a bang!
